Our Unique Approach to Hawaii's Playgrounds

Selecting playground equipment and designing a playground was much simpler when we were kids. All the metal swings, slides, and climbers pretty much looked the same. There were no guidelines or codes like CPSC and no laws such as the ADA to concerns ourselves with. Common design details used today like age-appropriate equipment, supervision sight lines, or safety surfacing were non-existent.

One of the things that makes Island Recreation unique is our approach in selecting the products we represent. We feel that quality and function should receive priority in the precious environments we create. Our focus is on designing and building a playground or recreation area for you that will last for generations. We will not compromise this commitment with value-engineered products or materials.

We also provide professional design and planning services at no cost to our customers. Our designers will take your ideas and incorporate them into your available space in the form of a 2-D site plan. We can produce high quality 2-D and 3-D drawings for you to monitor design changes, raise funds,and see what your idea will look like as a finished product. We know this is an important investment you are about to make so you (and your children) should be able to see what you are purchasing before it is built.

And finally, in most situations, we can significantly reduce the cost of your project by using the resources that are available to you. Our "Community-Built" program has been recognized by the State of Hawaii and was used to prepare a statewide community-built resource booklet entitled, The Honowai Project. In general, our community-built process includes assistance in planning and construction details, and supervision by one of our installers on the day of your build.
